email: jmorgan@summitdaily.com Jim Morgan is a Virginia native who has been an editor, publisher and corporate newspaper manager for most of his 37-year career. He is General Manager of Colorado Mountain News Media as well as publisher of the Summit Daily News. Previously, he was managing partner of Main Street Newspapers, which publishes seven non-daily newspapers in southwest Virginia. And for 17 years with Boone Newspapers Inc., he was an editor, publisher as well a vice president and group manager. He has also worked as a consultant to the newspaper industry and has been a frequent speaker before press associations and ownership groups. Morgan began his newspaper career at the Shenandoah Valley Herald in Woodstock, Virginia, in 1972 as a sports reporter and photographer while still a high school student. He is a 1977 graduate of James Madison University and attended graduate school at the Centre for Journalism Studies at the University of Wales as a Rotary Foundation International Scholar. He is the winner of the Associated Press’ Hal Boyle Award for Excellence in Column Writing and the winner of the Associated Press’ Frank Allen Award for Outstanding Performance in News Writing. Morgan and his wife, Becky, have two grown daughters. His interests include fly fishing and upland game hunting. |
