The company was formed in 1975 by Phil Swift. At that time, Mr. Swift
left his position as President and General Manger of the Swift Division
of Scripps League of Newspapers and started Swift Newspapers, Inc.
The original corporate office was located in Napa, California.
The foundation of the new company was two daily newspapers, the
The News-Review (Roseburg, Oregon) and Tahoe Daily Tribune
(South Lake Tahoe, California). In addition to the two dailies,
the company included North Lake Tahoe Bonanza (Incline Village, Nevada)
and the Sierra Sun (Truckee, California). Later in 1975, the corporate
office was moved to Carson City, Nevada.
The corporate office remained in Carson until 1993 when it was moved
to a temporary office in Reno, Nevada. In 1998, the office moved to
its current Reno location at 500 Double Eagle Court. The facility
includes corporate administration, technology and Swift's training
center.
