FAQs for Transfer of Ownership of the Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News and the Northern Nevada Business View
1. Who purchased the four publications?
A: Nevada News Group (NNG), a subsidiary of Pacific Publishing, purchased the assets of four Sierra Nevada Media Group publications: the Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News and Northern Nevada Business View from Swift Communications. Pacific Publishing, a Seattle-based media company, operates community newspapers in Seattleās most affluent neighborhoods as well as newspapers in central Nevada. The Tahoe Daily Tribune will remain a Swift Communications publication. More information is available about Pacific Publishing at https://pacificpublishingcompany.com/ and http://www.news4nevada.com.
2. What happens to the employees working at the northern Nevada publications?
A: Nevada News Group is offering employment to current employees working at SNMG publications including Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News and Northern Nevada Business View.
3. Does this sale include the Reno-based publications including Northern Nevada Business View, The Big Nickel and Healthy Beginnings?
A: Northern Nevada Business View is included in this sale. Healthy Beginnings and Big Nickel are not part of this sale.
4. Why are we selling these publications?
A: While this is not the first sale of an operating business for Swift Communications, a likely question on many of your minds is why we made this decision. This sale is consistent with our strategic plan, which includes optimizing the growth and profitability of our core business units based on the economic viability of the markets in which we operate as well as investing in “new to Swift” businesses. The Sierra Nevada Media Group team made great strides in improved financial results over the last 16 months. At the same time, the opportunity provided to us by this sale to Nevada News Group allows Swift to more rapidly advance our desire to identify and create, acquire and/or invest in “new to Swift” businesses that will eventually become a significant portion of our total revenue and profits in coming years.
5. Are any of our other publications for sale?
A: At this time no publications are listed for sale.
6. I am a Shared Services employee; will I work with the new NNG team?
A: Yes, we are still supporting the Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News and the Northern Nevada Business View as we always have, except Employee Services and Payroll. ES and payroll tasks will be handled locally in Winnemucca.
7. How does this sale impact PressWorks Ink?
A: PressWorks Ink currently prints Battle Mountain Bugle, Lovelock Review Miner and Humboldt Sun owned by Winnemucca Publishing, a subsidiary of Pacific Publishing. The Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News and the Northern Nevada Business View will continue to be printed by PressWorks Ink.
